By Tadau I've taken the liberty to answer some common and uncommon questions you may or may not have. FAQ v1.2 Q. What's this site all about? A. There's a long answer and a short answer. The homepage has the short answer:
The long answer is read the about page, as it has a long description of what we're trying to accomplish, how we're doing it, and why. DA integrates many forms of amusement into it's content. The harder to catch amusement may come from some internal references, some sarcasm, or maybe an easter egg. That's why the site is interactive. The Flack section and the forums are there to better understand the whats and whys. Q. Who can I thank/blame for this incredibly useful/useless site? A. Dan Barrett, whom has a few aliases (Tadau Phoenix, or most any affiliation to D). Brief history: Once upon a time I started DA back in 1997 when I had this brilliant idea: DAN - My name made up the initials for The Digital Amusement Network. I up and registered the domain ASAP, and a friend of mine hosted it at an ISP that I was soon to work for. I made a bunch of crummy pages with text and graphics splattered all over it. Early 2000 when I had a much better understanding of how to lay out a website and how to design better content, I created a brand new site featuring a CGI program that built all pages dynamically, and rustled up a crew of friends to make content. The People were pleased with it's clean look, and there was much rejoicing. Q. So this other site with a "clean look". What happened to it? A. It didn't do what it needed to do anymore. People involved were losing interest, and our level of coming up with good material diminished. The old stuff is archived, and a portion of it has made its way into the new site. Q. What's up with those weird links on the homepage? They sound cool, but... A. The links on the left of the home page are explained in the about section, why they're there, what they do, etc. The about section contains much useful information about DA. Q. I have an idea, what can I do? A. You are an integral part of the site, so you can submit ideas to be checked out by others. They may take these ideas and use them. There are two forums dedicated to coming up with original ideas. One is more for spontainity, the other is for well thought out and laid out ideas. Q. That bar graph with "potential" and "value" and whatever - why is that there? Does it mean anything? A. The bar graph is there to measure the overall effectiveness of the current idea being proposed. It's a way to get a quick visualization as to what to expect out of the idea. The variable "Epoch" takes the place of a date. This is a new and unique approach to dated material. You'll find a full and thorough explaination in the bar graph page. Q. That "flack" column on the right - nice look! A. Thanks. See the main column on the homepage? Yeah, that's what the Flack column pertains to. The Flack column is almost entirely user driven. Again, the about section has details on how it works. Q. Those are some clever animations of the people writing for DA. Can I have one? A. Can you write for DA? Email me reasons and/or material that makes you think you want to join my rubber chicken silo asylum clan. We're located in the middle of some strawberry fields, where nothing seems real. Q. DA? Like district attourney? Are you a lawyer? A. What? No, but I know people in law school. DA stands for Digital Amusement, fully known as "The Digital Amusement Network". Q. Do you run this site all by yourself? A. Just about. Currently, I have a part in everything to goes on. Check the involved page to see who does what. Q. I saw ANARCHY on the home page!!! Should I block my kids from seeing this site? A. You've got some options. Profanity is used where appropriate on DA, however there may be some exceptions and the Rant section is definately one of them. We're not telling any one to blow stuff up or commit suicide. You may find hidden messages if you squint real hard and cross your eyes a little. We don't poach elephants or owls. Pretty much what it comes down to is if you can't handle sarcasm, radical ideas, being different, or you're dead set that I am Satan, then check DA out anyway! You're already here, so maybe you'll prove yourself wrong. What do you have to lose? It's fun for the whole family (like when your parents have that angry sour look at the dinner table, cause you blurted out "BOOBIES!") Now please stop asking stupid questions. Q. I saw CRACKHEAD on the home page!!! Are you advocating drug use? A. No, but frankly I don't care about your personal habits. The bigger scheme is more important. Question time is over. |
